Reel North is an independent information site about independent cinema in Quebec and Canada. It explains the history of Quebec film, the festivals of Montreal and Toronto, how films reach cinemas, and what makes a bilingual film.
What this site is not
This site is not affiliated with any film company, distributor, festival, public institution or person mentioned on it. It does not sell tickets, announce releases or represent anyone in the film industry. Titles, names and festival brands appear only to describe the subject, and they belong to their respective owners.
How we write
Each guide is based on facts that can be checked in reference works and on the websites of recognised institutions. Where sources disagree, as they do on some box-office figures and dates, we say so instead of choosing one number silently. We prefer a cautious sentence to an invented detail.
How to read the guides
The four guides stand on their own and can be read in any order. They describe the past and the structure of the field. For current programmes, dates and tickets, the official websites of the festivals and institutions are the right place to look.
